Professor Whitworth received his undergraduate B.F.A. degree in photography from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL, his graduate M.A. degree in photography from California State University at Fullerton, CA, and his M.F.A. in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses covering B/W, color, and alternative processes at institutions that include: the Uptown Hull House Photography Center in Chicago, IL, the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, IN, and the University of New Orleans, New Orleans, LA. He has had one-person exhibitions at North Texas State University, Denton, TX, the University of New Orleans,
New Orleans, LA, St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN, and the Ecole Regionale Des Beaux-Arts in St. Etienne, France. Private and public collections include: New Orleans Museum of Art, Continental Bank of Chicago, the Ruth and Marvin Sackner Archive of Concrete and Visual Poetry, Miami, FL. In 1995-96, Professor Whitworth was a member of the curatorial committee for The Bridge, the SIGGRAPH computer conference art show, an exhibition held jointly at the New Orleans Convention Center and the Contemporary Arts Center. The committee was involved in the artist selection, site planning, design, and installation of an exhibition of the work of 29 international artists who created computer-based 2-D, 3-D, and interactive artworks. Professor Whitworths' work primarily involves the exploration of the integration and juxtaposition of text with images, utilizing a variety of photographic materials and processes. His recent work incorporates traditional B/W prints, type "C" color prints, Duratrans, ortho transparencies, and lightbox displays.
